Christian Ahlmann’s Parisian Triumph: Sweeping the Longines Eiffel Jumping

The Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping event was held last weekend, leaving one rider particularly satisfied – Christian Ahlmann.

The German rider claimed victory in both the major events of the weekend: the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Paris and the Saint Laurent Eiffel Challenge.

An Evening Under the Eiffel Tower

On Saturday night, beneath the Eiffel Tower, some of the world’s best show jumpers assembled to participate in the Parisian leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour. Considering the caliber of the riders, course designer Gregory Bodo crafted a subtle yet technical track, as described by the event’s President, Virginie Couperie Eiffel, during the course walk.

We’re fortunate to have one of the world’s top course designers here this weekend. We can already see the tight turns, and in the lines, the riders will have to make real decisions and adjust according to their horses’ strides. It promises to be an exciting sporting moment.”

“This Victory Holds a Special Flavor”

At the end of the exciting sport, there was one winner – and he was German. Riding his 11-year-old gelding, Mandato van de Neerheide, Christian Ahlmann outperformed a seven-pair jump-off. “It’s hard to describe this feeling,” shared the victorious rider during the award ceremony.

The last time I participated in a Grand Prix on this circuit, over two months ago, I was much less fortunate (the rider had a heavy fall with Solid Gold in the Mexico Grand Prix). I was delighted to be back competing. It’s the first time since my fall that I’ve returned to top-level sport. So this victory has a special taste. The crowd and the atmosphere here in Paris are incredible, my horse was fantastic, he responded to all my requests. Everything was perfect for me tonight.”

A Fruitful Weekend for Ahlmann

But that’s not all! The rider did not stop at just one win. The following day, Sunday, he also claimed the Saint Laurent Eiffel Challenge, a jump-off event where the bars reach 1.55m. This time, he rode Otterongo Alpha Z, a stallion of just 9 years old. A productive weekend indeed.

On her part, Pénélope Leprevost stepped onto the third podium of the Grand Prix on Saturday night with Bingo del Tondou. The result was a relief for the Normandy rider: “We’re coming out of a somewhat complicated period, so this result makes me really happy. I was afraid he’d doubt himself, but he shows me he has confidence, in me and especially in himself.” The French rider also claimed the second rank in Sunday’s event with the 11-year-old stallion GFE Candy de Nantuel.
