Abdullah al-Sharbatly Suspended for One Month by FEI

Saudi show jumper Abdullah al-Sharbatly has been suspended for one month by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), with the suspension taking effect on August 31, 2026.

The suspension comes after al-Sharbatly received two recorded warnings within a 12-month period under Article 259.1 of the FEI Jumping Rules, which came into effect on January 1, 2026.

Under the rule, a rider receives a recorded warning when blood caused by the rider or equipment is detected on a horse during competition. If a rider receives two such warnings within 12 months, the penalty is automatic: a fine of 1,000 Swiss francs and a one-month suspension.

Al-Sharbatly received his first recorded warning on June 4 during a CSI5* competition in Calgary, where he finished first and second in a 1.45m class aboard Atome des Étisses and Valentino.

His second warning was issued on August 27 at the CSI4* in Gijón, where he was again competing with the same two horses.

The second warning triggered the automatic suspension under FEI rules.

The Saudi rider had already attracted attention earlier this year after his rounds with Dubai of the Cedars at the World Championships in Aachen sparked controversy on social media.
