How to take care and clean your Helite airbag
Every day, we have people contacting us about questions regarding the care of Helite airbags.
How can I clean it? Do I really have to keep it on a hanger between usage? What happens if my airbag ends up in the washing machine by mistake?
First of all, YES, your airbag HAS TO BE ON A HANGER FOR STORAGE, and cannot be tossed into your tack trunk or locker in a messy unsightly ball. This could damage the airbag over time and compromise your safety.
To clean your airbag, you should use a clean microfibre damp cloth to get all the dust and dirt out. We do not recommend the use of any kind of detergent or deodorants to avoid any alterations of the airbag.

You should never attempt to wash your airbag in your washing machine. If submerged in water, the balloon inside could move and fold onto itself, which could keep the airbag from working properly if triggered. Also, corrosion of the parts of the trigger could occur as well.
If the trigger is submerged in water, it could infiltrate the air chamber while hot water would also damage the balloon.
The Helite compatible garments can be machine washed at 30°C, in warm water.
The airbag should never be tumbled dry, lay on a radiator or near a source of intense heat.
Finally, always keep your airbag in controlled temperature environment to avoid corrosion in the trigger system. Remember to be extra cautious with sharp and pointy objects to avoid damages to the balloon like safety pins, nails in the barn to hang your airbag, horses that could take a bite in your airbag while you are walking around them or if the airbag is left by the stalls and the horses can access it.
