An American equestrian is in critical condition following a serious accident during a high-level competition in Normandy on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred during the Grand Prix Sotheby’s International Realty – Normandy Region CSI3*, hosted at the Pôle International du Cheval in Saint-Arnoult, near Deauville. Thirty-two-year-old rider Cathleen Driscoll suffered a severe fall at the very first jump of the event.
According to reports, Driscoll struck one of the vertical posts marking the obstacle before her horse toppled over, landing directly on her. Emergency personnel responded immediately to the scene.
Due to the severity of her injuries, a Civil Security helicopter, Dragon 76, was dispatched to transport Driscoll to Caen University Hospital. She was admitted in critical condition, and according to first responders, her life was in immediate danger upon arrival at the emergency department.
The show jumping community has expressed deep concern and support for Driscoll, who is a recognized competitor on the international circuit.
